Birthday party

"Birthday Party" is a 2024 short film directed by Valentina Carrasco Thayer as part of the MA Acting for Screen program at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

It merges in a comedic and surreal way Wes Anderson’s visuals and brightness of colors with Yorgos Lanthimos unsettling vibes.

In the film, there are some flashbacks to Daughter’s previous birthday parties, where she always won all the games. Grace Dewhurst plays Daughter in all the scenes, including the flashbacks, and dressing her “as a child” contributes to this surreal telling of the story.
