Creating visual narratives through costume design

Costume design has the power to communicate far more than clothing alone. For me, it is a vital part of visual storytelling, shaping how audiences understand characters and the worlds they inhabit. Through considered choices of colour, fabric, and silhouette, costumes can suggest identity, social status, and inner conflict, while also establishing the time and place of a narrative. Often, they reveal key aspects of a character before a single line is spoken. Because of this, costume design is never arbitrary; each detail is carefully chosen to support the character’s journey and contribute to the director’s overall vision.
